Blackberry Aperol Spritz & my 10 favorite movies set in Italy

This Blackberry Aperol Spritz is a fruity twist on the classic Italian drink.

This has been the summer of Aperol Spritzes (there's a reason for that). Up until this summer, I had never had one. Now, it's one of my favorite go-tos.The Spritz is a wine-based cocktail normally served as an aperitif in Northeastern Italy, and the Aperol Spritz is inspired by the Venetian-style drink of white wine and soda. Aperol Spritzes are simple enough to make with their 3-2-1 ratio of Prosecco (this can be substituted for sparkling wine or champagne), Aperol, and club soda.Though Aperol Spritzes are typically bright red-orange in color, the blackberries add a dark purple hue with this drink. The Farmers Market had the juiciest blackberries, and after days of munching on them, it was only natural to add a handful to my drink.Similar great taste, just fruitier. Just add berries to your glass, add Aperol, muddle the two together, and then top off with ice, Prosecco, and club soda. No shaking involved, just a casual mix. Straightforward and refreshing - truly the best type of cocktail for warm weather. The best part about this drink is that you can add a variety of flavors when you get tired of the classic mix. Different fruits, syrups, and liqueurs can all be added for an updated sparkling spritzy beverage. As a popular drink in Italy, this drink is even better when you enjoy it with an Italian movie. Below are my picks of stunning movies set in Italy - when you need an easy escape, these are a great go-to:

  1. Roman Holiday

  2. Come September

  3. Italian for Beginners

  4. The Godfather

  5. La Dolce Vita

  6. Cinema Paradiso

  7. A Room with a View

  8. La Strada

  9. The Talented Mr. Ripley

  10. To Rome with Love
